Watching
a child playing baseball the best he could can make you wonder what
he’s going to be like in 10 or 15 years’ time. The answer depends
on how well he’s guided and trained for the sport. If you want to
be part of his journey to baseball stardom, it’s time to learn the
best way to train young players. Here are some
tips you can integrate into your training program:
Be Fair
It’s easy to be mesmerized by an
extremely promising player or players, and to neglect your second
stringers. Don’t forget, however, that some people are late
bloomers; so be fair and be patient with everyone. Every player who
plays for you wants to become better, and helping everyone get better
is part of your job as coach.
Positive Reinforcement
Most coaches stop training when they
spot something wrong and wish to correct it. Of course, there is
nothing wrong about pointing out mistakes, but make sure you do the
same thing when someone does something right. Doing so will help
build confidence in the young player, and will subtly show other
players exactly
what they should be doing.
Proper Training Equipment
Having the proper equipment is vital
to the growth of young players. For example, honing the skills of
young pitchers and future home run legends becomes much easier when
they train within sturdy baseball batting cages. These are especially
important for varsity teams.
